Zakharova recalled that Berlin was the initiator of several packages of EU sanctions, which "confirms Germany’s strategy of using the EU resources with the aim of enforcing its policy of Russia’s comprehensive containment"

MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. Some EU member-countries are angry over Germany-dictated policy of Russia’s containment and find it harmful, but they do not dare express their discontent openly, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing on Thursday.

"Far from all countries are pleased with this state of affairs. Many feel discontent and even fear in connection with Germany’s domination in pan-European politics, but for various reasons, including financial dependence, they are unable or do not dare to openly oppose such policies imposed on them from outside, although they find them detrimental," she said.

Zakharova recalled that Berlin was the initiator of several packages of EU sanctions, which "confirms Germany’s strategy of using the EU resources with the aim of enforcing its policy of Russia’s comprehensive containment."

"This would be rather hard for the German side to implement without support from the European bureaucracy, whose independence in fundamental foreign policy matters makes no sense to discuss," Zakharova said.
