The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman underscored that the cynicism of the Latvian authorities "exceeded every possible boundary"

MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics’ accusations against Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov over alleged glorification of Nazism during his shows is a complete nonsense, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday, commenting on the country’s entry ban for Solovyov.

She recalled that the Latvian foreign minister accused Solovyov of "glorification of Nazism" and noted that Rikevics, apparently, is unable to watch the source material that he comments on, due to Latvia’s ban on Russian TV channels.

"That’s why he comes up with nonsense. Otherwise, the top Latvian diplomat would know that it is difficult to find an equally fierce anti-fascist as Vladimir Solovyov, who dedicates a solid portion of his show time to fighting the brown plague," Zakharova said.

The diplomat underscored that the cynicism of the Latvian authorities "exceeded every possible boundary" in this case, adding that such behavior by Riga requires a "different characterization, most likely legal."

"If they embarked on fighting Nazism, then it is time to stop tolerating Latvian citizens who glorify it," the diplomat added.

The spokeswoman also recalled that Latvia was one of several countries who did not support UN Security Council’s resolution on fighting the glorification of Nazism in 2020.

Earlier on Thursday, Solovyov was barred entry to Latvia.
