The Kremlin does not understand why and precisely on what grounds would the European diplomatic community back blogger Alexey Navalny convicted of fraud, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized on Wednesday commenting on statements by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell after his visit to Russia.

"They are supporting a convict. It is just not clear on what grounds they support him," the Kremlin press secretary reasoned.

The spokesman pointed out that the talks with Borrell in Moscow were "much more substantial than just one subject," related to Navalny.
