Moscow to have serious talk with US about its reaction to protests in Russia — diplomat
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman underlined that Washington will not succeed in using human rights violation rhetoric against Russia "to steer public opinion away" from its own problems
MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. Moscow is planning to hold a "serious conversation" with Washington in light of American statements about the recent unauthorized protests in Russia, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova told a briefing Thursday.
The diplomat underlined that the US will not succeed in using human rights violation rhetoric against Russia "to steer public views and public opinion away from its own problems." "We want to keep track of this issue and hold a serious conversation with Washington. I assure you, it won’t be long before news emerge," she said.
Zakharova urged the US to address its domestic problems and in this light she noted that the campaign to persecute the people who participated in the so-called storming of the Capitol on January 6 and all those disagreeing with the recent presidential election results raises concern in Moscow. "I would like to address Washington. I predict that the protest there will not just simply go away by itself. Discontent will not be swept under the rug," she underlined.
