Medvedev: Some politicians tried to use BLM protests to shake US loose from inside
Dmitry Medvedev is certain that the problems of the US political system lie within this system as such
GORKI, February 1. /TASS/. Politicians who masterminded Black Lives Matter protests in the United States were trying to shake the country’s loose from the inside, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev believes.
"Naturally, all this was masterminded from the inside to a certain extent. Clearly, certain politicians hoped to use these protests to shake loose the US system from the inside. But this is very hard to do," he told Russian mass media in an interview.
Medvedev said that in the United States there existed a robust system with a vast experience of democracy. "But they also have tremendous problems. Everything that is happening there is a consequence of those problems," he believes.
Medvedev is certain that the problems of the US political system lie within this system as such.
After the presidential election, Medvedev believes, the US system has regained a "relatively balanced shape, even despite these contradictions." Among these he mentioned the very election mechanism, which allows a candidate who in fact collects fewer votes to become president.
Medvedev recalled his conversation with former US presidential national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, who in reply to a remark about election mechanism flaws said it remained unchanged for 200 years: "You know, we are used to this system and we think it's a good one."
