Level of trust between Russia, the US on the rise — senator on New START extension

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden expressed their satisfaction with the exchange of diplomatic notes regarding the treaty extension

MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. The level of trust between Russia and the US is currently on the rise, Russian Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Chairman Viktor Bondarev told journalists Tuesday, commenting on the agreement to extend the New START treaty.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden expressed their satisfaction with the exchange of diplomatic notes regarding the treaty extension.

"Thanks to the work done by our president, our government, the level of trust [between Russia and the US] grows. We must stop arguing now, we must find common points that would facilitate further strengthening of peace and stability in the entire world. And all those measures taken now confirm the good intent of both politicians and the military," Bondarev explained.

Russia and the US signed the New START treaty in 2010. The treaty remains in effect until February 5, 2021, unless replaced with a new agreement. The treaty could be extended for five years, should both sides agree.
