Russia's top diplomat pointed out that in mid-2019, Russia had put forward a collective security concept for the Persian Gulf region

MOSCOW, January 26. /TASS/. Moscow does not support attempts to link progress in ensuring security in the Persian Gulf region to the preservation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday.

"Some countries are tempted to link progress in regional security to the restoration of the JCPOA. We are not one of these countries. On the contrary, we are confident that the JCPOA should be restored in full without preconditions," the Russian top diplomat emphasized.

Lavrov pointed out that in mid-2019, Russia had put forward a collective security concept for the Persian Gulf region. "We presented an initiative to develop a regional security concept for the Persian Gulf nearly 20 years ago. Since then, we have been reiterating it, keeping an eye on the changing situation in the region and the entire world in order to update our approach," he added.
