Situation around US elections reflect all West’s problems, says Russian diplomat
According to Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Western nations are seeking to use pressure on Russia in a bid to conceal their internal contradictions
MOSCOW, January 17. /TASS/. The situation around the presidential elections in the United States has reflected all the problems of the Western world, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Sunday.
"The situation around the American elections, around what is going on there, has reflected everything - all the problems of the Western world," she said in an interview with the Voskresny Vecher (Sunday Evening) with Vladimir Solovyov program on the Rossiya-1 television channel.
According to the Russian diplomat, Western nations are seeking to use pressure on Russia in a bid to conceal their internal contradictions. "Sanction under the pretext of alleged Novichoks, never-stopping pressure and allegations that our Nord Streams are not the right stream, <…> and blacklists, and so on - all of that is a disguise, a myth, a chimera used to hide the crisis of their own system," she said.
On January 6, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building in Washington DC to stop lawmakers from officially certifying the results of the November presidential election in a last-ditch attempt to prevent Democrat Joe Biden from becoming the new president. One protester was shot dead during the unrest. In addition, three others died, the causes of their deaths were qualified as medical emergencies. Biden’s inauguration is scheduled for January 20.
