Russia ready to hand over vaccine development technology to Egypt

Russia was the first in the world to register a COVID-19 vaccine on August 11, 2020

CAIRO, January 14. /TASS/. Russia is ready to provide Egypt with the Sputnik V vaccine and to hand over its development technology to Cairo, the Russian Embassy in Egypt said on Facebook on Thursday.

"Russia is ready to establish immediate cooperation with Egypt on providing the population with highly effective coronavirus vaccine shots," the message informed. "If registration formalities are adhered to quickly, deliveries of significant batches of the vaccine may begin in January with their steady increase in the following months of 2021."

Besides, the embassy noted that Russia is ready to hand over vaccine development technology for its production in Egypt. "Not only does this help organize a widespread vaccination campaign, it will also help develop economic and foreign trade potential of our Egyptian friends," the Russian diplomats noted.

"Clinical trials and mass COVID-19 vaccination experience that started in Russia and other countries show that the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" is one of just three vaccines created in the world so far with over 90% efficiency," the embassy noted. "Unlike many similar vaccines, it does not require expensive deep-freeze equipment: it can be stored and transported with the temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius, which helps deliver it to far-reaching places." Besides Russia, the vaccine was registered in Algeria and Palestine, the diplomats stated. It is expected that many other states, including the UAE, will register the vaccine soon, along with the World Health Organization, the statement reads.

Russia was the first in the world to register a COVID-19 vaccine on August 11, 2020. The vaccine is dubbed "Sputnik V." It was developed by the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.

So far, Egypt has registered a China-made COVID-19 vaccine produced by Sinopharm. Besides, Cairo informed that clinical trials of several Egypt-made vaccines are underway in the country.
