The relations between Russia and Egypt are developing very actively, Egypt is Russia’s reliable partner, particularly in the Middle East, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held as part of the Belt and Road international forum.

Putin recalled that last year countries marked 75th anniversary since the diplomatic relations were established. "We are currently developing our relations, we are very active here. And, without any doubts, Egypt is a reliable partner for Russia, in the Middle East in particular," the Russian leader said during the meeting.

He pointed out that the agreement on comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and Egypt that was signed October last year during the Egyptian President’s visit to Russia allows to take bilateral ties to new heights.

"We are coordinating our efforts on the world arena and, in this regard, I would like to thank you for agreeing to co-chair with us the first Russia-Africa summit that is scheduled for October this year," Putin said.

He added that the bilateral trade volume is rising. "In the end of 2018 it increased by 14% to reach almost $8 billion, while in January-February it rose by 25%," Putin stressed.

President el-Sisi also underlined that the relations between two countries are strategic and deeply rooted in history. "We, in turn, confirm our willingness to develop them in all spheres. I also hope that the upcoming Russia-Africa summit will be successful and will accomplish the tasks set for it," the Egyptian President added, extending his gratitude for the opportunity to co-chair the summit.
