Russia vows to continue assisting Syrian government, army in liberating country
Lavrov stressed that while liberating the country’s territory, the Syrian military and government were abiding by international humanitarian laws
SOCHI, February 13. /TASS/. Moscow is determined to continue assisting Damascus in liberating Syria’s territory, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference on Wednesday.
"I would like to reiterate that we will continue to make every possible effort to assist the Syrian government and armed forces in liberating the country," he said. "We will support the Syrian army’s activities that must be consistent with international humanitarian laws," the Russian top diplomat added.
Lavrov stressed that while liberating the country’s territory, the Syrian military and government were abiding by international humanitarian laws and Russia was keeping an eye on that. "We will not let things happen like in Raqqa, where the western coalition was active," he said.
"Everybody has already seen how Aleppo and Eastern Ghouta were liberated, hundreds of thousands of people have already returned to these areas, while in Raqqa, dead bodies have not been taken away yet and the city has not been cleared of mines, as far as I know. We will not let such things happen, and the Syrian government surely does not want such developments to take place," the Russian foreign minister pointed out.
