Russia not planning to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem
To date, only the United States and Guatemala have embassies in Jerusalem
MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Russia is not going to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, Russian Ambassador to that country Anatoly Viktorov said in an interview with TASS.
"The issue of transferring the Russian embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is outside the agenda. Russia is committed to the international legal framework concerning Jerusalem, including corresponding United Nations Security Council resolutions," he said.
By now, only the United States and Guatemala have embassies in Jerusalem (since May 14 and May 16, 2018, respectively). The United States’ decision to move its diplomatic mission to Jerusalem sparked grassroots Palestinian resistance and triggered numerous protests in Arab countries.
Paraguay was the third to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem but later the embassy was moved back to Tel Aviv.
Apart from that, Austria, Brazil and the Czech Republic said they were looking at recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moving their embassy to that city.
