Ambassador refutes rumors of Russian jets extracting Venezuelan gold

An ambassador slams reports claiming that Russian jets are extracting gold out of Venezuela

CARACAS, January 31. /TASS/. Reports claiming that Russian jets are extracting gold out of Venezuela are aimed to discredit the country, Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Vladimir Zaemsky stated during Thursday’s press conference.

"All these propagandistic red herrings, which, in my opinion, are released with one goal only - to simply hurt Russia’s image in the whole world," Zaemsky said in response to a request for comment on the reports of Russian jets transporting Venezuelan gold. "This fake news, to my mind, actively penetrated the Russian media environment, but I am unable to comment on this in any way, as the embassy does not have any information regarding this matter whatsoever."

Earlier, on January 29, Venezuela’s National Assembly stated on Twitter, on the behalf of Venezuelan MP Jose Guerra, who said that according to the information allegedly obtained from the country’s Central Bank officials, a plane had arrived from Moscow with the intention to transport 20 tonnes of gold out of the country. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov later denied these reports.
