Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has held a meeting with leadership of the State Duma

MOSCOW, January 30. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting with leadership of the State Duma (lower house of Russia’s parliament) headed by Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, focusing on the peace treaty talks with Japan, relations with the United States and European countries among other issues, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

"[They] discussed priorities in Russia’s foreign policy along with pressing international issues. Lawmakers showed particular interest in prospects for broader cooperation with CIS countries [the Commonwealth of Independent States, an assembly of former Soviet republics], talks with Japan on a peace treaty, the Ukraine crisis, developments in the Middle East, relations with the United States and major European states," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

These meetings help increase interaction between executive and legislative bodies and exchange views on a wide range of foreign affairs, the foreign ministry said.
