Moscow slams Israeli strikes against Syria
The Russian Foreign Ministry says Israel’s air strikes on the outskirts of Damascus violate Syria’s sovereignty
MOSCOW, December 26. /TASS/. Israel’s air strikes on the outskirts of Damascus grossly violate Syria’s sovereignty along with resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
"The fact of the strikes and the way they were delivered is a question of our most serious concern. There is every indication that Syria’s sovereignty was grossly violated along with UN Security Council’s resolutions, including Resolution 1701," the ministry stressed.
The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the manner of strikes conducted by Israel’s Air Force.
"The air strikes were again conducted by the Israeli aircraft under cover of civilian planes descending to land at the airports of Damascus and Beirut," the ministry added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Russian Defense Ministry’s Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told reporters that on Tuesday night six F-16 fighters of Israel’s Air Force delivered air strikes on Syria from Lebanon’s airspace, thus directly putting in danger two passenger jets. The Syrian army had to restrict its use of air defenses and radio electronic means to avoid a possible tragedy.
