MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Kremlin sees no need for mediators between Russia and Ukraine in the wake of the Kerch Strait provocation but is grateful to all those willing to contribute to efforts to ease tensions.

"Moscow is grateful to all those who are ready to contribute to easing tensions provoked by the Ukrainian side but sees no need for any mediation efforts," Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

According to the Kremlin spokesman, "all those willing and having an opportunity to do so can help by influencing Kiev."

Turkish President Recep Tayiip Erdogan said his country could act as a mediator in resolving the crisis involving the Ukrainian naval ships, Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday. "We discussed with both parties (Russia and Ukraine - TASS) what can be done and whether we can act as a mediator," the news agency quotes Erdogan as saying.

A TASS source in the Turkish president’s administration earlier said he had held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Pyotr Poroshenko. According to the source, "he listened to both sides’ points of view on the Black Sea incident and noted the importance of resolving the situation by diplomatic means."

Meanwhile, the Kremlin press service reported that Putin and Erdogan had held talks. It noted that "in light of the dangerous incident in the Kerch Strait area provoked by the Kiev authorities, there was an exchange of views on stability and security issues in the Black Sea region."

On November 25, three Ukrainian naval ships breached the current rules of passage from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov. The intruding Ukrainian vessels illegally crossed the Russian state border, trespassed into Russian territorial waters and conducted dangerous maneuvers. In defiance of repeated warnings and demands to stop, the Ukrainian ships kept violating the law by continuing their risky maneuvers, which drove the Russian forces to use gunfire in order to compel them to stop. As a result, all three ships were detained. In addition, three Ukrainians injured in the incident were given medical assistance. A criminal case was opened over the violation of the Russian state border. Moscow described the incident as a provocation.
