MOSCOW, August 23. /TASS/. The agreement to renew suspended contacts between Russian and US defense and diplomatic agencies is very important, as it is the key to the future, said Konstantin Kosachev, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for International Affairs, in a conversation with TASS.

On Thursday, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said after his negotiations with US National Security Adviser John Bolton that Moscow and Washington agreed to renew contacts between their defense and foreign diplomacy agencies.

"It is very important that the meeting took place and that there is an agreement to make these contacts regular. It is also vital that interagency contacts were renewed, chiefly between structures in which the actions and interests of the parties overlap or are at odds," Kosachyov said.

"This agreement lays the groundwork that had been lacking over the past two years," he added.
