Situation in Syria in focus of Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Jordanian counterpart
Ayman Al Safadi informed Russian Foreign Minister about the arrival of members of the White Helmets non-government organization to his country
MOSCOW, July 22. /TASS/. The situation in southwestern Syria was in focus of a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Al Safadi, the Russian foreign ministry said on Sunday.
"Key attention was focused on the development of the situation in the Middle East, primarily in Syria, in the light of the successfully ongoing anti-terror operation in southwestern Syria," the ministry said on its Facebook account.
Al Safadi informed Lavrov about the arrival of members of the White Helmets non-government organization to his country.
The Jordanian top diplomat hailed Russia’s efforts to have Syrian refugees return home and stressed that Amman was ready for cooperation on this matter.
The Jordanian authorities earlier gave their consent to a United Nations request to let 800 Syrian enter its territory to be later moved to the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada.
White Helmets activists fled from Syria’s southern regions where government troops are finishing an operation against armed groups. Damascus claims the White Helmets is linked with Jabhat al-Nusra (a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) and is acting in its interests.
