Kremlin aide says no weighty reasons for crisis in Russian-US relations
The epoch of an acute ideological confrontation between the US and the Soviet Union has long become a thing of the past, Yuri Ushakov said
MOSCOW, July 13. /TASS/. There are no weighty reasons for a crisis in the Russian-US relations and both countries must and should cooperate in the surmounting of common challenges, President Vladimir Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said in a comment on the forthcoming summit meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump in Helsinki, scheduled for July 16.
"It’s only too obvious for everyone that collaboration between our two countries has slid into a crisis recently," Ushakov said. "The tensions that have flared up don’t have objective reasons or an objective groundwork."
"The epoch of an acute ideological confrontation between the US and the Soviet Union has long become a thing of the past and the situation in the world has changed dramatically," he said.
"Both countries have to grapple with new threats of a general character," Ushakov said, pointing out terrorism, extremism, regional crises, and nonproliferation issues.
"Given this background, our two countries could work together counteracting to these knotty challenges and must do so," he said.
