Russian, Chinese top diplomats discuss bilateral ties, North Korea, Iran nuclear deal
The two top diplomats met ahead of the ministerial meeting in Vienna
MOSCOW, July 6. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi discussed in Vienna on Friday bilateral issues, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear program and the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.
"[The two sides] exchanged views on the current issues related to bilateral relations, cooperation within the SCO (the Shanghai Cooperation Organization), the JCPOA and developments on the Korean Peninsula," the ministry said.
The two top diplomats met ahead of the ministerial meeting in Vienna, which brought together the foreign ministers of Iran and a group of five nations (the UK, Germany, China, Russia and France). The participants in the meeting initiated by Tehran will focus on efforts to salvage the nuclear deal in the wake of Washington’s decision to withdraw from it.
