MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. A representative of Russia’s Central Election Commission commended organization of Mexican elections, which took place on July 1. Mexico’s National Electoral Institute undertook great work to prepare for general elections, the voter turnout was high, and the polling stations had all necessary equipment, Secretary of Russia’s Central Election Commission Maya Grishina, who observed the election process, informed TASS on Monday.

"We have observed a high voter turnout, high level of activity. Mexico’s National Electoral Institute - an institution similar to our Central Election Commission - undertook a lot of work to prepare for the elections, and it was noticeable at all polling stations," Grishina said.

She noted that all polling stations had equipment for counting the votes. "Keeping in mind that all Mexican electoral commissions consist of members of the public, the vote count was organized at a high level, and all measures were taken to count the votes in a precise and transparent way," secretary of Russia’s Central Election Commission stressed.

On July 1, Mexican citizens elected the nation’s president, as well as 128 senators and 500 members of the Chamber of Deputies (lower house of Mexican parliament). Local elections also took place in 30 out of 32 regions of the country, including elections for governor.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a candidate from the leftist coalition "Together We’ll Make History," is winning the Sunday's presidential election in Mexico by a wide margin. According to preliminary data, Lopez Obrador has about 53-53.8% of the votes. His closest rival Ricardo Anaya has 22.1-22.8% of votes. All rival candidates have recognized the victory of Lopez Obrador, including Ricardo Anaya, Jose Antonio Meade and Jaime Rodriguez Calderon.
