Kremlin concerned over situation in Gaza
The Kremlin says the situation in Gaza, where dozens of Palestinians have been killed during mass protests against the move of the US embassy to Jerusalem, causes deep concern
SOCHI, May 15. /TASS/. The situation in Gaza, where dozens of Palestinians have been killed during mass protests against the move of the US embassy to Jerusalem, causes deep concern, Acting Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
He pointed out that from the very start, Moscow had been expressing concern about the United States’ steps that could raise tensions in the Middle East. "Unfortunately, this is what happened. The situation, moreover, the deaths of dozens of Palestinians, cannot but cause deep concern. We have been keeping a close eye on the situation and we still believe that all the parties, particularly members of the Quartet (Russia, the US, the United Nations and the European Union) should refrain from actions that could escalate tensions," the Kremlin spokesman stressed.
The opening ceremony of the new US embassy in Jerusalem took place on Monday, causing clashes on the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, which killed at least 59 Palestinians.
