Putin offers condolences to Macron over May 12 terror attack in Paris
The presidents have discussed the Syrian issue and the US withdrawal from the Iran deal
MOSCOW, May 15. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin offered condolences to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron over the May 12 terror attack in Paris in a telephone conversation, the Kremlin press service reported.
"The Russian president offered condolences over the terror attack that took place on May 12 this year in Paris," the Kremlin said in a statement.
Putin and Macron have discussed the Syria issue and reaffirming the two countries’ commitment to the Iran nuclear deal in light of the US withdrawal from the accord.
"Putin and Macron exchanged views on issues concerning ways to resolve the Syrian conflict and paid special attention to the situation surrounding Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for Iran’s nuclear program. Russia and France reaffirmed their commitment to the implementation of this agreement," the statement reads.
In addition, the Russian president informed Macron about his meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano, held in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on May 14.
The two leaders discussed preparations for Macron’s visit to Russia, set to take place on May 24-25, as the French president is expected to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). According to the Kremlin press service, Putin and Macron also determined "the range of pressing bilateral and global to be put on the talks’ agenda."
