Serbian foreign minister, Russian senator discuss bilateral relations
Sergey Kislyak is on a visit to Serbia, where he takes part in an international parliamentary conference
BELGRADE, May 10. /TASS/. Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic and the first deputy chairman of the Russian upper house’s international affairs committee, Sergei Kislyak, discussed in Belgrade on Thursday relations between the two countries, the press service of the Serbian Foreign Ministry said.
"In their conversation, the sides assessed the level of bilateral relations as exceptionally high, especially when the pace of a political dialogue is implied, which is characterized not only by closeness of the two peoples, but also by mutual support and understanding," the ministry said.
Dacic and Kislyak, who is former Russia’s ambassador to the US, discussed Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9. Dacic said his country had the honor and pleasure to be represented at the highest level, by President Aleksandar Vucic, who together with Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the Immortal Regiment march in Moscow and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
"This day is very important for the history of our peoples, as well as for the memory of all Serbian and Russian heroes who gave their lives in fight for freedom and against Nazism," the Foreign Ministry quoted the Serbian diplomat as saying.
Sergey Kislyak is on a visit to Serbia, where he takes part in the international parliamentary conference "Through the idea of the EU towards peace and development".
This year, more than one million people took part in the Immortal Regiment march in which nations of the former Soviet Union carry portraits of their relatives who fought in the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany in 1941-1945.
