The Lithuanian authorities "are sticking to this futile for Lithuania course with unfailing persistence," the Russian ambassador to Lithuania said

VILNIUS, April 24. /TASS/. Vilnius’ foreign policy has driven relations with Russia into a dead end, Russian Ambassador to Lithuania Alexander Udaltsov said on Tuesday.

"The Lithuanian authorities have driven our relations into a dead end, deliberately and intentionally, and are sticking to this futile for Lithuania course with unfailing persistence," he said, commenting on Monday’s meeting of the Lithuanian government on the country’s eastern policy.

According to the Russian diplomat, there was no point in discussing relations with Russia "once it has been announced that any improvement in these relations are a priory out of the question." "It is the fault of official Vilnius that Lithuania has blurred out in the system of Russia’s foreign policy priorities," he said, adding that it is senseless to speak about any steps such as the resumption of the activities of the intergovernmental commission "as long as Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry is headed by the current minister."

After the government meeting on Monday, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said that there were no prerequisites for changes in his country’s policy towards Russia.
