Russia receives no notifications on lawsuit filed by US Democratic National Committee
"If the information is true, Democrats seem to be trying to somehow justify their defeat", said Maria Zakharova
MOSCOW, April 21. /TASS/. Russia’s Foreign Ministry has not received official notifications on a lawsuit filed by the US Democratic National Committee concerning the results of 2016 presidential election in the United States, the ministry’s Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Saturday.
"We have learnt from media reports that the US Democratic National Committee had allegedly filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation and Russian nationals in the federal court of New York, complaining about results of the US presidential election in 2016," the foreign ministry said citing Zakharova.
"Russia’s Foreign Ministry has not received any official notifications from anyone yet, so it is still premature to speak about our steps," she said. "Nevertheless, if the information is true, Democrats seem to be trying to somehow justify their defeat."
The US public "is very frightened by a phantom of Russian hackers," but the issue has been still spiraling. The diplomat pointed out that the theme of "collusion" and "foreign interference" from Russia had been exploited by the United States for more than a year and a half.
"Perhaps, they are eager to push their fantasies from newspaper pages and TV screens into courtrooms so as to reinvigorate domestic political wrangles and to further whip up anti-Russian sentiment," she said.
"However, more worryingly is a negative effect on Russian-American relations," Zakharova said.
"Global ‘weather’ depends largely on the atmosphere in dialogue between our countries, but [the US] is unable to grasp that there is no sense in pressuring Russia," she concluded.
