Administration officials told the newspaper Trump was unlikely to endorse more additional anti-Russian sanctions "without another triggering event by Russia"
WASHINGTON, April 16. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has ordered putting off the imposition of new economic sanctions on Russia that were announced earlier by the US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, The Washington Post said on Monday.
"Preparations to punish Russia anew for its support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government over the alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria caused consternation at the White House," the article said, adding that Haley’s announcement of forthcoming new sanctions was followed by consultations between Trump and his national security advisors.
The Washington Post claimed Trumps told the advisors "[…] he was upset the sanctions were being officially rolled out because he was not yet comfortable executing them […]."
Administration officials told the newspaper Trump was unlikely to endorse more additional anti-Russian sanctions "without another triggering event by Russia."
The report also quoted an unnamed Russian Foreign Ministry official saying the Administration had informed the Russian Embassy in Washington "the sanctions were not in fact coming".
