Russia’s envoy to EU says US never promised to replace Russia as energy supplier in Europe
The United Sates has been actively counteracting the implementation of the South Stream gas pipeline project
MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. U.S. companies will use their export licenses on the Asian market where gas price is 150% higher than on the European market, Russia’s Ambassador to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said on the Russian Rossiya-24 television on Wednesday.
“The United Sates has been actively counteracting the implementation of the South Stream gas pipeline project, underscoring the necessity for Europe to decrease its dependence on Russian supplies,” Chizhov said. “Those have been policies of the current and previous administrations.”
“At the same time, the US has never promised to Europe that it would replace Russia as an energy source,” the diplomat said. “All these talks about shale gas and shale oil that will flow as a river from the United States are talks for the profane audience.”
“Actually, even if the U.S. law restricting oil exports is amended, in any case, exporting companies will use their licenses not on the European markets but on the Asian one where the gas price is 150% higher,” he said.
