Representatives of the first Russian social network for disabled people "S-VOI" have asked renowned English theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking to become an honorary member of the project, chairperson of the regional department of Russian Society of Disabled People Valentin Shmakova told TASS on Tuesday.
"We've sent a video-message and written invitations in Russian and English. We have not received any answer yet," Shmakova said. "Hawking is a person who can achieve his goals… For many of us, Stephen Hawking is a symbol of hope and dreams coming true," she added.
"Our guys have a dream - to ask questions and try to solve your unique mathematical problems. We want to introduce an interactive classroom on our website which will serve as a window to ‘Stephen Hawking’s Universe’. It will become a window to the world for many disabled people in Russia," the video-message said.
TASS reported earlier that the first social network for disabled people in Russia is to be launched today. It will have the same features as all other popular social networks.
Around 1.5 million rubles has already been invested in the project. Part of the sum was collected thanks to taxi for disabled people organized in Kemerovo, another part was donated by entrepreneurs. "In order to develop the project, we will require additional funds. In a month, a website for colorblind people will open, a little later - a website for visually impaired people," Shmakova added.
