LONDON, June 2. /TASS/. Sotheby's has withdrawn from Tuesday's auction a painting by Ivan Aivazovsky, one of the greatest marine artists in history, at the request of the Russian branch of Interpol, the auction house told TASS.
The painting 'Evening in Cairo' estimated at $2.4-3.1 million was one the highlight of the Russian Pictures sale.
The ussian branch of Interpol earlier said the painting had been stolen from a private collection in 1997.
