Klyuchevskoy and Shiveluch volcanoes have been spewing ash 5-6 km into the sky, with plumes drifting 270 km in different directions

PETROPAVLOSK-KAMCHATSKY, February 16. /TASS/. The Aviation Color Code in Kamchatka has been changed to orange in connection with increased volcanic activity in the region, the volcanic eruption response team at the Institute of Volcanology told TASS on Monday. Klyuchevskoy and Shiveluch volcanoes have been spewing ash 5-6 km into the sky, with plumes drifting 270 km in different directions.

Shiveluch is the northernmost active volcano in Kamchatka. Klyuchevskoy is the highest active volcano in Eurasia.

The Chikurachki volcano on Paramushir Island in the northern Kuril islands has spewed ash 7.5 km in the sky today, prompting the response team to assign it an orange Aviation Color Code. Specialists say that the volcano may start spewing ash 10 km in the air at any moment, which may present a threat to aircraft engines.

Cikurachki last erupted on July 29 - August 15, 2008.
