Russian Bolshoi Ballet heads for Monaco to unveil Year of Russia

MOSCOW, December 15. /TASS/. Russia’s famous Bolshoi Ballet heads for Monte Carlo on Monday to unveil the Year of Russia in Monaco in 2015 with a ballet that is teamwork of The Bolshoi and a Monaco choreographer.
The Taming of the Shrew, a pet project of The Bolshoi and Monaco’s choreographer Jean Christophe Maillot, will be shown on one of the biggest stages of Monte Carlo, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco, on December 19.
The premier of the ballet based on William Shakespeare’s comedy to the music of Dmitry Shostakovich, gained a thunder of applauses in Moscow in July.
An agreement on the Year of Russia in Monaco, signed in July, envisages about 130 events. Renowned conductor and artistic director of St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev, famous Russian conductor and violinist Yuri Bashmet, Russian opera star Anna Netrebko and other renowned art figures are expected to please Monaco's audience.
However, ballet is rightly on top the cultural program to be shown in Monaco. Back at the start of the 20th century, Monaco became a home and rehearsal base for the legendary Russian Seasons of entrepreneur Sergei Diahilev. Ballet ties have continued since then, and teamwork on The Taming of the Shrew is yet another proof.
