MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. The brown bear who was run over by a train in the Siberian city of Norilsk has survived, a spokesperson for the Norilsk Nickel company said on Thursday.

A 20-second footage showing the bear running away from the train along the snow-covered track was posted on YouTube on Thursday. Two voices can be heard on the video shouting "Squash him!" while the train driver seemed to be making no attempts to slow down.

The incident occurred in the small hours of Thursday on the train track operated by the Russian metals giant Norilsk Nickel.

Norilsk Nickel spokesperson Tatiana Smirnova said that the animal had survived as no traces of blood or body were found on the track. Moreover, some witnesses had spotted the bear in the outskirts of Norislk after the incident.

Smirnova said that the company is investigating the incident and could fire the train drivers.

"Such behavior is not typical of our employees and causes nothing but outrage," she said.

A senior aide to the West Siberian Prosecutor's Office said that a probe was launched into the video footage that quickly went viral on the Internet.

'We watched the video and had an impression that the train crew deliberately sped up and made to attempts to avoid the collision [with the bear]," Oksana Gorbunova told TASS adding that the prosecutors could not just simply ignore the incident.
