MOSCOW, December 2. /TASS/. The second generation YotaPhone, a dual-screen smartphone with an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display on one side and an electronic paper display on the other, will go on sale in Moscow on December 27 and will enter the world's other markets later in January.

“Soon after its presentation, the YotaPhone 2 will enter the market of 20 European countries. In the first quarter of 2015, the smartphone can be purchased in China and other countries of the Asia-Pacific region, followed by Canada and Latin America,” Russian smartphone manufacturer Yota Devices said on Tuesday.

The YotaPhone 2, first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, will cost in Russia $636, which is nearly twice the price of the first generation YotaPhone, which went on sale in December 2013.

Like its predecessor, the YotaPhone 2 has a traditional smartphone display on the front and an e-ink display on the back.

The YotaPhone 2 is slightly bigger than the previous version, with a 5-inch AMOLED display replacing the 4.3-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) of the original YotaPhone. The 4.7-inch e-ink display on the back is always on and now fully touch-responsive.

In addition to the two screens, the YotaPhone 2 has a Qualcomm quad-core 800 series processor and is equipped with 32GB of built-in storage and 2GB of RAM. The device has an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter on the other side.

Other features include a Smart Power Mode allowing the user to turn off the energy-consuming colour screen and perform functions like making phone calls on the always-on display to preserve battery life. YotaPhone delivers over 50 hours of battery life while in ‘reading mode’.
