LONDON, November 26. /TASS/. Two paintings by famous Russian artists were sold Wednesday at the MacDougall’s fine art auction house, headquartered in London, for more than 2 million British pounds (over $3 million).

MacDougall’s, which is the only fine art auction house specializing on Russian art, gained 1,228 million British pounds ($1,93 million) for the work of Russian painter and archaeologist Nicholas Roerich from the Sancta series, titled And We Continue Fishing (1922). Another masterpiece Pine Forest or Sukhostoi, created by Russian landscape painter Ivan Shishkin in 1987, was sold for 1,215 million pounds ($1,91 mln).

The auction house also put for November sale the works of other acknowledged Russian painters, such as Ilya Repin, Nikolay Fechin, Pyotr Konchalovsky and Mikhail Larionov.

Since the firm’s founding in 2004, MacDougall’s has risen to become one of the three world leaders in Russian art auction and now holds a quarter of the global market. The biannual sales during London’s Russian Art Week in June and December feature works by Russian masters from the 19th to the 21st century, works on paper, icons and works of art. This was the first international auction house with a representative in Moscow and still is the only one with a representative in Kiev.

The auction house has developed an extensive client base in Russia and countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States uniting former Soviet republics, nurturing close relationships with collectors and cooperating tightly with leading Russian art experts, institutions and artists.

For the last three years MacDougall’s annual sales have totalled over 20 million British pounds (over $30 million). Moreover, the house has established several new world records, including record auction prices for works by Russian painters Ilya Repin, Zinaida Serebryakova and Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin.
