MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. Russia’s world famous Bolshoi Theater embraces on Monday a major social networking site, Instagram Russia, in a project called Empty Bolshoi.
Twenty of Russia's most popular Instagram users will explore the empty theater that has a day off on Monday to take photographs of the White Foyer, Imperial Foyer and the auditorium of the restored Bolshoi.
“Today is an off day at the Bolshoi, the right time for such an action,” the Bolshoi’s press service reports.
For a week they will be posting photos with the #EmptyBolshoi hashtag on their Instagram page, tagging the Bolshoi’s account in the project that will give an opportunity to engage with the Bolshoi Theater vicariously.
“Actually, this is done to advance our Instagram page and increase the number of subscribers,” Bolshoi’s press service said.
The Empty Met movement was initiated by Instagrammer Dave Krugman, who in 2012 ushered several other talented Instagrammers into the Metropolitan Museum of Art through a side door during its closed hours. Unimpeded by visitors they wandered through exhibition halls to get some great photos from unusual angles.
“It is my belief that projects like these can build community bonds while also attracting a new generation of patrons to museums,” he said.
After that, they posted photos on Instagram with #emptymet” hashtag, showing the renowned museum from unusual angles. The Empty Met project proved so successful, that the movement is spreading across the globe and many companies are eager to open their doors at closed hours for Instagram photographers.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen and Royal Opera House in London have already taken part in the project.
