One of mountain peaks in Chechnya named after TASS
“This is the first mountain peak in the world named after a mass media, and we are very grateful for that,” TASS Director-General Sergei Mikhailov said
GROZNY, October 4. /TASS/. A mountain peak in Chechnya on Saturday was named after TASS on the occasion of its 110th anniversary celebrated in September of this year.
TASS Director-General Sergei Mikhailov said the decision to name a peak after the news agency had been prompted by the beauty of the Chechen mountains and close friendship with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
“This is the first mountain peak in the world named after a mass media, and we are very grateful for that. We turned 110 this year and we thank Chechnya for this generous gift,” Mikhailov said.
At the official naming ceremony a video was played, showing TASS correspondents with their Chechen colleagues and alpinists ascending the peak and putting up Russian, Chechen and TASS flags at the top.
The TASS peak is 3,525 metres high and located among the spurs of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, in the southern part of the Dani-Duk ridge.
