MINSK, September 29. /ITAR-TASS/. Experts will confirm whether five paintings, said to be stolen by a group of Belorussian burglars from private residence of the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, are authentic, press representative of Belarus’ State Security Committee /KGB/ Artur Stekh told ITAR-TASS on Monday.

The official said that the criminals planned to sell the works of unknown artists, saying they were paintings by Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Konstantin Yuon and Wassily Kandinsky. The criminals wanted sell the paintings for two million euro.

“Experts will check whether the paintings are genuine and whether they really were taken from former Ukrainian president’s house”, Stekh said, adding that the expertise will prove the real cost and artistic value of the paintings.

Last week Belorussian State Security Committee arrested and jailed the suspects. Criminal cases under the article on illegal entrepreneurship have been aroused. Besides these five, during the searching party at the criminals’ residence the investigation found and seized over a thousand ancient paintings and religious icons, painted in oil on the linen canvas of 18th-19th century.
