Over 10 people with dengue fever symptoms seek medical aid in Tokyo

All the patients visited Tokyo’s central Yoyogi Park allegedly inhabited by infected mosquitoes

TOKYO, September 1. /ITAR-TASS/. More than ten people with dengue fever symptoms have sought medical aid in Tokyo, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases reported.

According to the Institute, last month, all the patients have visited Tokyo’s central Yoyogi Park allegedly inhabited by infected mosquitoes.

On the previous week it was reported that two young women from the Saitama Prefecture and a young man from Tokyo Prefecture, who knew each other and also visited the Yoyogi Park, had dengue fever. Thus, for the first time since 1945, Japanese people catch dengue fever in their own country. The area allegedly inhabited by infected mosquitoes in the Yoyogi Park was conditioned.

 

Symptoms of dengue fever

Mosquitoes are the main transmitting agents of dengue fever. The disease is often accompanied by fever, adenopathy, skin rash, and pain in muscles and knuckles. When repeatedly infected, a person may have a bad case of dengue fever especially dangerous for people with compromised immunity.

According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, about 100 million people become infected with dengue fever each year. In 2013, 249 Japanese were infected abroad.
