Works of Fellini, Hitchcock, Cameron, Coppola recommended by Russia’s Culture Ministry

Thirty five films on the list, acknowledged as public heritage on Russian territory, are available for free online watching

MOSCOW, August 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Films by Federico Fellini, Alfred Hitchcock, James Cameron, Bernardo Bertolucci and other world famous directors have been included in the list of top hundred foreign films recommended by Russia’s Culture Ministry, acknowledging them as public artistic heritage.

“A list of 100 foreign films has been published on the website http://culture.ru/ in the Foreign Classic Films section”, the ministry’s press service said on Monday. The list includes films of American, German, French, British, Swedish, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian, Yugoslavian, Polish, Japanese and Chinese production. Russia’s ministry recommends these masterpieces to be acquired and watched in any possible legal way: on a licensed video-disk, in public cinemas, at film festivals or on legal online resources. Each film on the list is followed by general information about the producer country, the date of release, its director, screenwriter, starring actors and short summary.

Russian ministry included in the top hundred such films as Le notti di Cabiria (Nights of Cabiria, 1957) and 8 1/2 (1963) by Fellini, Vertigo (1958) by Hitchcock, Gone with the wind (1939) by Victor Flemming, Titanic (1997) by James Cameron, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) by Milos Forman, The Godfather (1972) by Francis Ford Coppola, West Side Story (1961) by Robert Wise, The Last Emperor (1987) by Bertolucci, Modern Times (1936) and The Gold Rush (1925) by Charlie Chaplin.

Thirty five films on the list, acknowledged as public heritage on Russian territory, are available for free online watching. However, the other 65 can be obtained from paid resources only, following the hyperlink provided.

At the moment, 145 Russian feature films, 284 documentaries, a hundred animation films and another hundred films for school students are present on the website http://culture.ru/ in the Films section.
