ST. PETERSBURG, July 29. /ITAR-TASS/. A ballet on the basis of F. Scott Fitzgerald novel Tender is the Night will be staged in St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre in the upcoming season, director Boris Eifman said on Tuesday.

“I have long been interested in psychoanalysis and dreamt of staging a performance connected to with psychoanalysts’ ability to penetrate human inner world and materialize it,” said Eifman, director of St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre. “I want to show the marvelous electric time of jazz on the one hand and the characters’ psychological drama on the other.”

The main character is a young American psychiatrist who works in a Swiss clinic during World War I. He is successful and has a family but falls desperately in love with a young American actress. Eifman described it as a tragic story “about seeking a compromise between the inner and external worlds”.

The choreographer plans to use music by George Gershwin, Franz Schubert and Alban Berg.

The 38th season in the theatre will open in August with Rodin and Requiem at the Alexandrinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Early in September Eifman ballet theatre will go to Monte Carlo with Anna Karenina performance. After dancing Requiem late in September the troupe will go to the Czech Republic, Poland, France and the US.
