China to place Russia’s GLONASS ground stations
This year Russia plans to sign an agreement with China over placing three GLONASS ground stations in the country
MOSCOW, July 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian non-profit partnership GLONASS and Chinese satellite navigation office agreed on implementing pilot projects to ensure safety of flights and navigation, under which China will place ground stations of Russian global navigation system GLONASS.
The first project envisages placement of a local monitoring and correcting station produced by research and production enterprise Spektr at a Chinese airport, the press service of the non-profit partnership told ITAR-TASS on Monday. “This system of navigation, landing and signal monitoring will ensure satellite navigation for flights through zonal navigation and accurate landing approach,” GLONASS Vice-President Yevgeny Belyanko said, noting that “The second project will be implemented on a Chinese river, where monitoring and correcting stations with GLONASS/Beidou/GPS will be used for ship navigation monitoring that will make navigation more accurate.”
Russian-Chinese subcommittee is also set to create a satellite navigation to prepare regular meetings between prime ministers and two consultative groups on standardization and joint development of navigation equipment.
Non-profit partnership GLONASS is a Russian company in charge of development of Russian-Chinese co-operation in GLONASS and Beidou navigation technologies.

Both navigation systems can operate well together. Regional positioning system Beidou was launched in 2012 envisaging operation of 35 satellites. GLONASS orbital grouping includes 24 satellites in routine operation and four satellites in orbital reserve. Technological co-operation in this sphere was discussed during Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin’s visit to the Chinese city of Harbin in late June.
