Gelsenkirchen zoo keepers search for pandas missing after heavy thunderstorm

Zookeepers have assured the local population that bamboo bears pose no threat to people

BERLIN, June 10. /ITAR-TASS/. Two pandas have been reported missing in a zoo in Gelsenkirchen (Germany) after a heavy thunderstorm last night.

One of the animals that ran away from the zoo - a female specie, has been found, the zoo administration said. The animal, frightened by the formidable rattling of the thunder, had to be given medical assistance. Now, the lovely panda is asleep after a strong shock it survived.

Efforts to find the male panda have been to no avail. Zookeepers have assured the local population that bamboo bears pose no threat to people. The zoo keepers asked local residents to immediately notify the Zoo administration if any of them spots the missing animal.

A heavy thunder accompanied by strong winds and hail paralyzed traffic on many motorways in the west of Germany last night. Casualties have been reported.
