MURMANSK, May 27. /ITAR-TASS/. Dutch police have removed a group of protesting ecologists from an oil platform-Saturn, chartered by the Russian company Gazprom Neft, spokeswoman for the Greenpeace Russian department Maria Favorskaya told ITAR-TASS on Tuesday.

Six Greenpeace activists, who had climbed up the platform supports at the Dutch port, have been detained. No criminal charges against them have been brought yet, the spokesperson said.

A Greenpeace source said earlier that the organization’s activists had blockaded the Russian platform to prevent it from being sent to the Arctic shelf. Greenpeace divers chained the platform supports, making the platform unable to move. The remainder of the protesters climbed on board the Russian platform and unfolded a banner with a motto "Save the Arctic".

The oil platform which has been staying at Ijmuiden sea port in the Netherlands, was to have been towed to a different port in Rotterdam on Tuesday where it was to have been loaded on board a ship and brought to the Dolginskoye oil development shelf in the Sea of Pechora.

The Greenpeace claims that the oil platform, built nearly 26 years ago, had never been used in the Northern and Polar latitudes and that it does not conform to technical parameters necessary under conditions of stormy weather. A total of 30 Greenpeace activists from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany took part in the protest act.
