The terminal would be installed during manufacturing or at dealer centres, so the price will depend on producers and dealers

MOSCOW, May 20. /ITAR-TASS/. Terminals of the emergency response system ERA-GLONASS for private cars will go on sale next year, the president of the non-commercial partnership GLONASS Alexander Gurko said on Tuesday.

ERA-GLONASS will be commissioned this year. From January 1, 2015, all means of transport in the Customs Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan) that go through the type approval procedure for the first time will be equipped with onboard units supported by ERA-GLONASS. From 2017, the requirement will apply to all new means of transport sold in the Customs Union.

The terminal would be installed during manufacturing or at dealer centres, so the price will depend on producers and dealers, said Gurko. Major global producers of car electronics estimate the terminal’s price at about 3,000 roubles, or $87.

Those who care for their relatives’ safety do not have to wait until they can buy a new car and can go to a certified dealer center, pay for the terminal and its installation on the car of any brand and year of manufacture - a total of 4-5,000 roubles ($116-145). Connection to the ERA-GLONASS system and use during the car’s time in service was free of charge, added Gurko.

Commenting on reports that with ERA-GLONASS, comprehensive insurance will be cheaper, Gurko said additional services will be installed at driver’s will and may be charged.
