Media: Michael Schumacher’s condition improves
Physicians put the racer into progressive recovery phase
PARIS, January 29. /ITAR-TASS/. German racer Michael Schumacher that is in artificial coma already for four weeks after a severe craniocerebral injury, has entered the phase of progressive recovery, French media report.
According to the source, the sevenfold world champion in Formula 1 car racing positively reacts to the process of recovery from coma, which started this week.
Schumacher received a severe head injury December 29 while skiing in the French Alps.
Physicians of the Grenoble hospital, where Schumacher was rushed to in a critical condition, diagnosed “serious injuries” that might have been received “through a downfall on high speed”. It was also reported that the racer’s helm literally parted into two pieces.
Schumacher underwent already two surgeries.
Preliminary results of investigation
Earlier, French investigators ruled out the version of skiing outfit failure.
Representative of the mountain gendarmerie Stefan Boson, involved in the investigation of the racer’s downfall, noted that in the area of the incident, at a height of about 2.7 thousand, the ski trail slope is “not too large”. The prosecutor of Albertville Patrick Quincy stressed that “the speed is not the key aspect in the incident’s investigation”.
Media also reported that the racer’s speed could not be high since he wanted to approach and help getting up to one of his companions. Commenting on questions related to the speed of descend, French investigators refrained from any concrete estimates. They only noted that the racer “was moving with a speed quite normal for an experienced skier”.
Final results of the investigation will be published in early February, according to German media.
What showed the camera on the racer’s helm
Video recorded with the camera on |Schumacher’s helm was also attached to the case. During his downfall, the camera was on. France Presse quoted sources close to the investigation of the incident as saying that the video indeed features the very moment of downfall, as well as Schumacher’s descend shortly before it.
Reports say the footage lasts for about two minutes. However, the footage does not indicate that in the instant of falling Schumacher was heading towards anyone in particular.
Schumacher’s skis and helm were send to an expert review in Chamonix, France.
