Perm Territory to greet Olympic Torch relay-race on Friday

The Torch will travel to one of the oldest cities of the Kama River area - Kungur

PERM, January 03, 3:23 /ITAR-TASS/. The Sochi Olympics Torch relay-race comes to Perm Territory (PT). On Friday the Torch will travel to one of the oldest cities of the Kama River area - Kungur.

At 09:50, local time, the Olympic Torch will arrive at Perm-1 railway terminal to be welcomed by PT authorities and first Perm-based torchbearers -- executives of the Russian Railways Company. Then by a special plane the Torch will be airlifted from Bolshoyye Savino airport to Kungur. Over there, the relay-race will begin at 16:30, local time, and its route across the ancien city will be 5 km long.

In Kungur, 25 sportsmen and public figures have been honoured with the right to carry the Olympic Torch-2014. They include Svetlana Vysokova, bronze medallist of the XX Winter Olympics in Turin (Italy) in 2006, a participant in XXI Winter Olympics in Vancouver (Canada) in 2010 in speedskating and 24-time championess of Russia. Next torchbearer will be Anastasia Chirtsova, member of the Russian national freestyle team, a participant in Universiade in China and the World Cup. Vladimir Malykh, many-time world and European champion among veterans, a a marathon runner, who twice won world athletics championships, will be the last torchbearer.

Besides, hot-air balloons with Olympic symbols will loft the Olympic Troch into the air. The Kungur phase of the relay-ace will end with a "dance of elephans" -- the famous synchronous movement of hot-air balloons to music, the item which usually highlights the finals of the "Celestial Fair of Urals".

On Friday evening, the Olympic Torch will come bac to Perm to spend the night at the Orlyonok Palace of Sports. The relay-race's Perm phase proper will begin in the morning of January 4, which will involve 235 torchbearers, including prominent sportsmen, scientists, artists, physicians, and teachers of the Kama River area. The overall length of the Torch route in Perm will be 47 km. Mass festivities will begin at the ice township on the Perm esplanade at 18:30. The Olympic Torch Bowl will be ceremonially lighted at 21:00.

The Olympic Bowl is made from a special polyester reinforced with silicon fiber. This material is immune to the lowest and highest temperatures.The Bowl is 130 cm high and 60 cm wide. At the base, it is 110 cm wide. Nevertheless the Bowl is rather light, weihging only 16 kg. Russia's another several regions, via whivh the relay-race will run, will be given such Bowls for permanenet ownership. Perm Territory will also get such a Bowl for permanent and free use.

The Olympic Torch relay-race set out from Moscow on October 7, 2013, and ran along a route stretching for 65,000 km and covering the entire territory of the country.
