VLADIVOSTOK, December 03. /ITAR-TASS/. There was a powerful eruption of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka on Tuesday: the volcano ejected ash from its crater to a height of 10 kilometers. Experts of the volcanology observatory of the Klyuchi settlement told Itar-Tass by telephone that “something incredible is happening on Shiveluch.”

“A new dome is constantly growing on the volcano at an altitude of about 2,000 meters. Since 1980 it has risen 560 meters and has been destroyed more than once, last time - during an eruption in 2010,” head of the volcanology observatory Yuri Demyanchuk said.

Shiveluch is one of the largest volcanoes of Kamchatka. The diameter of its base is 45-50 kilometers. The absolute height of its main peak is 3,283 meters. A new dome is growing on the Young Shiveluch. The volcano began to form 60,000-70,000 thousand years ago. Scientists believe that there was a time when its height exceeded four kilometers, but devastating eruptions hindered the growth of the powerful mount. The most recent catastrophic eruptions of Shiveluch were recorded in 1854 and 1964.
