Renowned Russian Five’s hockey player dies in hospital, aged 52
Legendary soviet hockey forward Vladimir Krutov died in Moscow aged 52.On Sunday, he was hospitalized with internal bleeding, doctors said his condition was grave. Vladimir Krutov was a double Olympic Champion. Together with Igor Larionov, Sergey Makarov, Vyacheslav Fetisov and Alexey Kasatonov, he comprised the so-called Russian Five, which is believed to be one of the best hockey units in the history of ice hockey.He was one of the first Soviet players to make the jump to the NHL, joining the Vancouver Canucks in 1989.On the club level, Krutov played for CSKA Moscow, then worked as the team’s assistant and later as the head coach. In recent years, Krutov played in veterans' team, “Hockey Legends”.
