Damascus district located near Russia’s embassy bombarded with shells

One person dead, seven injured

azraa district housing the Russian embassy was bombarded by mortar shells on Wednesday. The diplomatic mission and its employees remain unharmed. The attack targeted a sports hall two hundred meters from the embassy. State news agency SANA reported that seven people were injured and one, member of the Syrian taekwondo national team, died.

The situation in the area has since returned to normal. A Russian diplomat told Itar-Tass by phone: “The district where the embassy is located was bombarded by shells. No Russian citizens were harmed, the missions’ building was not damaged. We are okay.”
